Customer Reviews for Olympia Fencing Center

Olympia Fencing Center is a large club, very friendly and family orientated place, there are kids as young as six years enjoying fencing as well as older children and adults. The head coach, Daniel, is a former Romanian fencing champion, member of the national team in the 90's, kids love him, parents speak highly about his coaching skills. We travel a lot all over the country to various fencing tournaments and the overall feeling is you're part of a big family, with cheering and supporting each other and fun parties after fencing is over. Olympia Fencing Center feels like a second home for all of us, my kids love it dearly and we have no words about how happy we are to be a part of this club.

Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
In 1997, I came in the USA with the Romanian Team for the Atlanta Olympics and this is when I decided to stay and live in USA and teach fencing. I felt that americans feel very enthusiastic about fencing but a little intimidated by it and I thought that all they need is some fresh, european air. Since 1992 I am coaching epee fencing, for the past 10 years I was a Head Coach at the Bay State Fencers, in Somerville, MA, then I opened my own club,in the Alewife area of Cambridge, which is flourishing now right in front of our eyes.
What is your primary product or service?
We are teaching Epee Fencing to children and adults of all ages and skill levels. We have a Musketeers Program, for young children, that helps them discover the Olympic Sport of fencing in a safe, fun way, then, for older kids, we have Youth programs that are crafted for different ages and skill level and not the last, programs for adults, both competitive or noncompetitive - anyone can start fencing, at any age!
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I started fencing when I was 7 years old, in Romania, an east Europen country, I fell in love with the sport and practicing it every day since. At the age of 10 I was already competing and in five more years I was a member of the Romanian National Team. I have been traveling all around the world, competing in European and World Tournaments and Circuits.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
It is our members, the kids and their families. It is my coaching, my love for the sport and my experience and I love kids! They are my second family and I know they feel the same about me. This club has been build by the members for the members - father and son hammered shoulder to shoulder and everyone with no exceptions had their contribution. We build it in a month! From an old woodshop to a brand new fencing venue - I am so proud of them all! And they strive to bring us results, they work hard and every medal that we hung on the wall is a medal for all of us.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
At this speed, I see us opening the least one or two locations in the future. The sport of fencing itself grows every day now, the venues are more and more crowded, prestigious nationwide colleges are offering scholarships based on fencing performance. We don't have enough fencing coaches and referees at this point and trying to grow them among our youth.
