How long have you been in business?
Irving House has been in business since 1945. My partners and I bought the hotel in 1990.
What is your primary product or service?

How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
We bought the worst house on a lovely street, in 1990. It happened to be a hotel. We have made improvements substantially and steadily since then. I had not stayed in a hotel nor owned a credit card at the time I became a hotelier and credit card merchant. I had to learn everything about the business. Prior to this, I had renovated and rented residential property (two-six family houses) in Boston, so I knew how to make physical improvements. Guests and colleagues have taught me all else that I know.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
A wide range of room types (single rooms with shared baths for the budget minded solo traveler to family rooms with bunk beds, private baths), a giving library throughout the house, a breakfast menu that includes locally sourced cheeses, jams, baked goods, and dairy and gluten-free options on request.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We now have 3 houses. One is for stays of longer than 2 weeks. The other two in mid Cambridge are small hotels. No plans to expand at this time.
