Traditional Andean music and dance ensemble
The splendor of Andean folklore comes alive with this acclaimed music and dance ensemble, winner of the Boston Music Award and 2008 Los Angeles Music Award for "Best World Artist." Inca Son has performed around the world and on some of the most prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall; the Kennedy Center; and the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. They have also played at the United Nations; before two different American presidents at the White House; and at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. In addition, New Inca Son performed at the National Geographic Museum (Washington, DC) to honor the 100th Anniversary of the Rediscovery of Machu Picchu. Inca Son has also made a name for itself through its original compositions, one of which - "Trip through the Andes Mountains" - won the 2007 Independent Music Award for "Best World Song." The music of New Inca Son is characterized by bamboo flutes - the cylindrical kena or double-rowed sikus, or panflute - as well as charango (Andean guitar) and bombo, or Andean goat-skin drum. The Inca Son dancers are also masters of an extensive repertory, including the "Valicha," "Northern Marinera," and "Huaylarsh," in addition to the spectacular "Scissors Dance." Peruvian folk dance is lively and buoyant, "warm and rich as the Andean earth," and Inca Son is one of its truest representatives. Band members: Omar Clavijo (narrator, flutes); Santos Alva (guitarist); René Quisbert (charango); Lenin Sabino (flutes, percussion).
